Hello all, my first post here for a while - couldn't say no boyzo's thrown gauntlet!
OK, I'll bite - Isobariks are wonderful. I have used them for several years now and have no desire to change them. Well, almost none (see below).
Bass: briks do bass like no other speaker I know (well, like no other speaker I can afford, at least! a used pair of DMS briks can be had for as little as ?300, at which price they are untouchable IMHO, providing you drive them properly). Deep, rich, authoritative. Nice.

Slightly off topic, I have now acquired a second pair of isobariks (much to my wife's annoyance, as she finds them even uglier than she finds me!). I couldn't resist them - heavily modified by Russ Andrews some years ago with reworked crossovers, fancy internal wiring and visaton ribbon tweeters in place of the original domes. I haven't the words to describe how good they are. All of the benefits of the originals (and some!) with none of the vices. The new pair are far easier to drive, with the sweetest top end and none of the midrange colouration of the originals. As an experiment, I even managed to get them to sing with a 40 wpc KT88 valve integrated. Try doing that with original briks (no, on second thoughts, don't. Could be messy). A Linn LK280 is my amp of choice and seems about ideal IMHO.
They came with a pair of Mr Andrews' custom built torlyte (whatever that is...) stands. I haven't done a direct comparison with the Linn open frame ones, but they certainly look nicer and don't sound obviously worse. In any case, humping briks around is for masochists and weightlifters only, so an A/B test won't be happening soon!

So, boyzo, I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Isobariks. Each to his own.
I'm off to spend an hour or two with Mahler, Miles Davis and Macallan. Fine company indeed.

I heard the isobariks in the 80s coupled to linn amps and LP12
in a Hi-Fi exhibition in London and I was amazed at the bass extension.

I am still keen to buy a pair and see what it sounds like at home,
hopefully it will blow me away.

Listening to all the different sounds/systems in a Hi-Fi exhibition is
an eye opener - some do sound aweful despite costing £000's

I always in the past found that Naim Electronics particularly suited Linn loudspeakers.
There was a signature from the amplification that reminded me of my Amcron DC150 and DC300 amplifiers.
Not subtle but they sure made the point!

We even ran a high quality disco (Discolord) using Amcron and Tannoy Ardens. The fill in loudspeakers were my poor suffering KEF 104aBs.
These were run by a heavily modified Radford HD250.

Only used in smal venues with a mediocum of care.
At one golf club the tweeters in the 104s caught fire and a few electrolytics in the crossover expoloded. Never made that mistake again. IDIOT!

i do like tannoy speakers too, esp the large cabinet ones.which one
is your favourite ?

lol - 104s not really disco spkrs are they !! you must have cranked
up the volume !!

also heard the Saras and Kans, from what i can remember they
are ok speakers.
